21 Grams. Iñárritu is elegant and so are actors Naomi Watts, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro. Today I am watching it again on television, and once again I feel its tremendous ferocity. The embodiment of hopeless and encouragement. Recently I have learned that Iñárritu and his wife Maria Eládia (to whom the movie is dedicated) lost their son Luciano to a lung ailment. Maybe the movie was an attempt to exorcise their terrible loss. At the very end of the movie it says "Para Maria Eládia, pues cuando ardió la perdida reverdecicron sus maizales" ("when what was lost was burned, the corn fields became green again"). Three characters that possess a serendipitous fate and learn that are indebted to each other in tragedy and in redemption.
